I Nancy White being sick but in sound mind and desirous of making my will do hereby dispose of my estate real and personal in the manner following.
To wit: I loan the use and benefits of the plantation whereon I now live together with the benefits and use of the lands adjoining the lands of Robert A. Joynes when I may have an interest to my son James H. White during his life. Also the use and benefits of my personal estate after the payment of my just debts, my negroes, and one bed and clothing excepted, at the death of my son James H. White. I loan the use and benefits of the foregoing property, negroes, and one bed and clothing, excepted to the children and lawful heirs of the body of my son James H. White but in case of the death of my son or of his children should he leave any not leaving heirs lawfully begotten of the body, I then give all of my real and personal estate to my interminable friend Polly Frost.
It. the 2 I give the bed and bed clothing to which I have above alluded immediately upon my death to Polly Frost.
It. the 3 My negroes Mary, Daniel, and Abraham and the increase of Mary, I desire should serve my son James H. White until the year eighteen hundred and forty nine by their remaining in the county.
It. the 4th My negro girl Leah and the increase of Leah, I desire should serve Polly Frost until the year eighteen hundred and forty nine by remaining in the county, but should an effort be made by my son James H. White or Polly Frost or those claiming under them to remove the negroes out of the county and from their friend, it is my desire that they should be deprived of my estate both real and personal.
It. the 5th It is my will and desire that my negroes regularly and legally to be emancipated the year eighteen hundred and forty nine by their complying with the requirements of the laws of Virginia but in case of their non compliance with the laws and leaving the state as required it is them my will and desire that they be brought into my estate and distributed as I before have found them.
It is my desire that my son James H. White be permitted to settle and request my worldly concerns without giving security whereunto I set my hand and affix my seal this [blank] 1837.

At a court held for Northampton County the 8th day of January 1838. This paper purporting to be the last will & testament of Nancy White dec’d was produced in court by James White exr therein named in order to be recorded. And it appearing by the oath of John N. Brickhouse only surviving witness thereto, that the said paper is substantially a copy of an original will executed by the said Nancy White, which is now lost or destroyed, by consent of the said James H. White (who is the sole heir & distribute at law of the said Nancy White dec’d) it is ordered that the said paper be recorded as the true last will & testament of the said Nancy White dec’d. And on the motion of the said James H. White who made oath & entered into & acknowledged a bond according to law in the penalty of $6000, but without security (the will directing that none should be required) certificate is granted the said James H. White for obtaining a probate o the said will in due form.
