Know all men by thee presents that I Johannes Johnson of the County of Northampton & State of Virginia do hereby manumit negroes Pegg & grant her all the privileges of a free citizen of this Commonwealth agreeable to an Act of Assembly for the manumission of slaves; and I also manumit James to be free in January the first 1815 and I also manumit Rachel to be free in 1811 and her increase to be free at lawful age, and grant them all the privileges of free citizens of this Commonwealth agreeable to an Act of Assembly for the manumission of slaves to be free, and I disclaim all right, title and demand from me, my heirs, Executors &c to or for them after the above periods to them assigned. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this the 9th day of October 1797.

At a court held for Northampton County the 9th day of October 1797. This deed of manumission was acknowledged by Johannes Johnson party thereto to be his act & deed and ordered to be recorded.
