Know all men by these presents that I Thomas Parsons of the County of Northampton & State of Virginia for divers good causes & considerations, me hereunto moving, and more particularly for and in consideration of faithful service rendered to me by my negro man slave named old Ned, have by virtue of the Act of the General Assembly of Virginia, in that case made and provided and do by these presents manumit, liberate, and set free my said negro man slave named old Ned. And I do by these presents for me and my heirs warrant & defend the liberty of the said negro man slave against me and my heirs, and against all persons claiming under me or them. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this ninth day of December Anno Domini 1789.

At a court held for Northampton County the 9th day of December 1789. This deed of emancipation was acknowledged by Thomas Parsons party thereto to be his act and deed & ordered to be recorded.
