Know all men by these presents that I Henry B Vaughan of the County of Southampton & State of Virginia,
have manumitted emancipated and set free, & by these presents do manumit, emancipate & set free, a negro woman
Slave named Mary and I hereby declare her the said Mary to be entirely liberated from slavery, and
entitled to all the rights and privileges of a free person with which it is in my power to vest her. She the said
Mary hereby Emancipated, is a woman of very bright or yellow Complexion, or a mulatto, about five feet seven or
eight inches high, and twenty eight years old. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my hand & seal
this 15th day of June one thousand eight hundred & thirty seven_ Henry B Vaughan (Seal)
Southampton County. In the Clerks Office this 15th day of June 1837.
This deed of Emancipation was acknowledged by Henry B Vaughan party thereto to be his act and deed
and admitted to record. And at a Court held for the County aforesaid on the 19th day of the same month, the said
Deed of Emancipation was entered upon the proceedings of the day.
