Whereas, by an order of the County Court of Southampton, made in the suit
of Nanny a Woman of Colour against Samuel Blunt Jr. Executor of Samuel Blunt Sr.
deceased at June Court 1835 it is decreed and ordered that the defendant Samuel Blunt Jr
Executor of Samuel Blunt Sr. deceased do carry the Contract refered to in the bill, and which it
appears to the satisfaction of the Court by the exhibits and answer was made by which on the
(payment of the one hundred dollars the said Complainant Nanny should be free) into execu-
tion by a deed of Emancipation to the said Nanny and her subsequently born Children Ricks,
and Nancy thereby fulfilling the contemplated agreement of the parties: Be it therefore known
to all whom it may concern that I Samuel Blunt Jr Executor of Samuel Blunt Sr
deceased in pursuance of the order of the Court aforesaid and by authority thereof do by
these presents hereby Emancipate, liberate and set free, Nanny the Complainant in the
suit aforesaid, together with her Children, Ricks and Nancy aforesaid, as fully and effectually
as by the said order of Court I am authorised so to do, and not otherwise. In testimony
whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this sixteenth day of August one thou
sand eight hundred and thirty six.

This Deed of Emancipation was proved by the oath of Thomas Ridley Jr a Witness
thereto, and the same having been proved in the said Office the 16th day of the same
Month, by the oath of Richard H. Burchett a Witness thereto, was admitted to record
And at a Court held for the County of Southampton the 19th day of September 1836,
the said deed was entered upon the proceedings of the day.
