Text of Freedom Document

I Jacob Jordan of the County of Southampton and State of Virginia having under my
care a negro named David aged about thirty nine years but believing he is entitled to his free
dom. I do hereby Emancipate and set free the said David And I do for myself my heirs
Exors and administrators hereby relinquish all my right title interest and claim or preten-
tion of claim whatsoever: either to his person or to any Estate he may hereafter acquire
the above named David to enjoy his full freedom without any interruption from me or
any person claiming for by or under me In Witness whereof I have hereunto set
my hand and seal this the day of March

in presence of.
Southampton County, In the Clerks Office the 28th March 1829
This Deed of Emancipation was acknowledged by Jacob Jordan the party thereto and
admitted to record. And at a Court held for the County aforesaid the 20th April
1829. The said Deed was entered upon the proceedings of the day
