Know all men by these presents that I Richard Barrow of Southampton
County for and in consideration of the fidelity and good conduct of my negro woman slave
named Susan otherwise called Suckey, I have manumitted emancipated and set free her the
said negro woman slave and do by these presents manumit emancipate and set her free
reserving to myself the right of her services during our joint lives or so long as I shall
live at the expiration of which said time I hereby declare her the said Susan to be entirely
liberated from slavery and intitled to all the rights and privileges of a free person with which it
is in my power to vest her. She the said Susan hereby liberated emancipated & manu-
mitted is a woman of a light yellowish complexion about five or six feet high and about
thirty or forty years of age. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal
this 20th day of October 1828.

emancipation was acknowledged by Richard Barrow the party thereto & admitted to record
And at a Court held for the County aforesaid the 17th November 1828 the said
Deed was entered upon the proceedings of the day
