I Mary Hargrave of Southampton County
in Virginia haveing under my care three negroes (to wit) Cupit
aged about fifty years, Cudger aged about Twenty four
years, Lucy aged about Thirty two years, whom I have
heretofore held as slaves, but being fully pursuaded that
freedom is the natural right of all mankind and that it is
my duty to do to others as I would be done by, Therefore I do
hereby Emancipate and set the said negroes free, & relinguish
all my right interest and claim or pretention of claim
Whatsoever as to their person Or to any estate they may
hereafter acquire, and having also seven who are
now in their minority Vizt Abraham aged seventeen
years in the fifth month next Essex? aged eleven
years in the fourth month next, Ned aged nine years
In the sixth month next, James aged seven years
In the tenth Month next Peter aged five years in the
fifth Month next, Silver aged three years in the eight
Month next, and Sampson aged one year In the eight Month next, Whom I likewise emancipate and set free. Yet I
Think it right for me to have the care and direction of the
males until they attain to the age of twenty one years,
and the females till she arrives at the age of eighteen years

I do hereby relinquish all my right Title Interest & Claim or
pretention of Claim whatsoever either to their persons or
to any estate they may acquire after they shall attain
to the full and Lawfull aforesaid
