I Anne Ricks, of Southampton County Virginia having
under my care a Negro Woman named Joan aged Twenty five years
The Nineteenth Day of the ?? Month last, whom I have hereto
fore held a slave But being fully persuaded that freedom is the
Natural right of all mankind and that it is my duty to do
By others as I would they should do by me Do therefore hereby
Emancipate and set the said Joan free, and I do for myself
My heirs Execturos & Administrators, relinquish all my
Right Title Interest & Claim or pretention of Claim,
Whatsoever Either to her person or to any estate she may
acquire after the Twelfth month Next, the above named negro
To Enjoy her full Freedom without any Interruption from
me or any Person Claming for by or under me In writing
Whereof I have Herewith set my hand and seal this
Twenty seventsh Day of the ninth Month in the year of
