I Henry Toler of the County of Westmoreland being possessed of a negro woman slave by the name of Sarah Birden and believing it to be just and politick, gradually to weaken the bonds of hereditary slavery do hereby emancipate and forever set free from state of bondage the said Sarah Birden. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty seventh day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & ninety eight.
