I Ann Smither of the County of Westmoreland being of opinion that keeping persons in slavery is contrary to justice & the Christian religion, the author of which having taught us therefore whatsoever ye would that man should do unto you, do ye even so unto them, do hereby emancipate & forever set free from slavery Livinah Johnson of the age of fifteen & her child Nancy Johnson, an infant seven months old. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 23rd day of March in the year of our Lord seventeen hundred & ninety six.
