Whereas the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Virginia did in the year seventeen hundred and eighty two enact a law entitled “An Act to Authorize the Manumission of Slaves”.
Know all men by these presents that I Robert Carter of Nomony Hall in the County of Westmoreland do under the said act for myself, my heirs, executors and administrators emancipate and forever set free from slavery the following thirty slaves both males and females are above the age of forty five years old. John Smith, Sam’l Harrison, Prince Johnson, Samuel Jones, Solomon Dickson, Harry Dicker, Samuel Thomas, Daniel Taylor, Harry Tuckson, Joseph Bruters, George Jones, Royall Colson, Robbin Spence, Billy Thompson, Abraham Daniel, Rose Smith, Judith Harrison, [?Teanor?] Johnson, Martha Jones, Criss Newman, Sarah Johnson, Joan Gumby, Sarah Dailey, Betty Newgent, Rebecca Jones, Judith Wilson, Phillis Jones, Sarah Cooper, Joan Conway, Betty Daniel. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my name and affixed my seal this first day of January in the year of our Lord seventeen hundred and ninety three.

At a court of quarterly sessions for Westmoreland County the 27th day of February 1793. This deed of manumission was proved by the oaths of Benjamin Dawson and Thomas Stowers the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
