Whereas the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Virginia did in the year 1782 enact a law entitled “An Act to Authorize the Manumission of Slaves”, know all men by these presents that I Robert Carter of Nomony Hall in the County of Westmoreland do under the said act for myself, my heirs, executors and administrators emancipate and forever set free from slavery the following negroes viz. Nathaniel Kenardy, James Reid, George Cooper, William Dickson, Thomas Johnson, Daniel Wilson, James Henry, Jesse Johnson, Thomas Walker, Jeremiah Johnson, Primus Johnson, Dinah Cary, Polly Wells, Barbara Newman, and Gabriel Johnson. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this second day of January in the year of our Lord seventeen hundred and ninety two.

At a court of quarterly sessions held for Westmoreland County the 28th day of February 1792. This deed of manumission was proved by the oaths of Benjamin Dawson and John James Maund the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
