Abingdon August 26th 1844 I hereby release and remit to Alexander Findlay and William H. Spiller all claims whatever to the slave George, to them bequeathed by the last will and testament of Francis Smith dec’d.

We hereby fully emancipate and set free the slave George devised to us by the last will and testament of Francis Smith dec’d, and in accordance with said will and hereby relinquish all claim and title we have to said slave George. Witness our hands and seals this 26th August 1844.

At a court held for Washington County the 26th day of August 1844.
This deed of emancipation from Alexander Findlay and William H. Spiller to their slave George was acknowledged in court by the said Findlay as his act and deed. And at a court held for the said county the 25th day of November 1844 it was proved in court by the oath of William YC White and John WC Watson two of the subscribing witnesses thereto to be the act and deed of said Spiller, and having heretofore been acknowledged in court by the said Findlay ordered to be recorded.
