Text of Freedom Document

Know all men by these presents that I Nancy Newman late Nancy Hackney of the County of Orange and State of Virginia by virtue of the power and authority vested in me by a certain writing in the county court of said county bearing date 8th day of July 1844 between Reuben Newman of the first part, myself of the second part, and Arthur Stephens of the third part do manumit and set free a negro woman slave named Patsy aged about 33 years and her two youngest children named [?Jenny or Jimmy?] and Nancy and I hereby declare them the said Patsy and her said two children to be entirely liberated from slavery and entitled to all the rights & privileges of a free person with which it is in my power to vest them. In testimony whereof I hereto put my hand and seal this 10th day of November 1856.
