Know all men by these presents that I Charles P. Howard of the County of Orange and State of Virginia have manumitted, emancipated and set free, and by these presents do manumit, emancipate and set free Quintus a negro man slave and a bright mulatto who was born my property in the year 1816, and who is now in his thirty eighth year. And I hereby declare him the said Quintus to be entirely liberated from slavery and entitled to all the rights & privileges of a free person with which it is in my power to vest him. Given under my hand & seal this seventh day of October 1854.

This deed of emancipation was this day acknowledged before me in the office aforesaid by Charles P. Howard a party thereto and admitted to record.
