Know all men by these presents that I Charles P. Howard of the County of Orange and State of Virginia have manumitted, emancipated and set free, and by these presents do manumit, emancipate and set free a negro woman slave named Polly aged about forty nine years, a bright mulatto and her three children also slaves named Peachy about thirteen years of life, James McNeal about nine years old, and Edmonia about three years and six months ole, and hereby declare the said Polly, Peachy, James McNeal and Edmonia to be entirely liberated from slavery and entitled to all the rights and privileges of a free person with which it is in my power to vest them. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty third day of November one thousand eight hundred and forty six.

At a quarterly court held for the County of Orange, at the courthouse on Monday the 23rd day of November 1846. This deed of emancipation from Charles P. Howard to his slaves Polly, Peachy, James McNeal and Edmonia was this day acknowledged in open court by the said Charles P. Howard and ordered to be recorded.
