Know all men by these presents that I Joseph Edwards of the County of Orange and State of Virginia have manumitted, emancipated and set free, and by these presents do manumit, emancipate and set free a negro boy slave named Felix, sometimes called Felix Quarles, and I hereby declare him the said Felix to be entirely liberated from slavery, and entitled to all the rights and privileges of a free person with which it is in my power to vest him. He the said Felix hereby emancipated isa boy of rather a light complexion, and about eight years of life, and is the son of Jacob Dade and Francis his wife, free persons of color of the state of Ohio. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty third day of November one thousand eight hundred and forty six.

At a quarterly court held for the County of Orange at the courthouse on Monday the 23rd day of November 1846. This deed of emancipation from Joseph Edwards to his slave Felix sometimes called Felix Quarles was this day acknowledged in open court by the said Joseph Edwards and ordered to be recorded.
