Know all men by these presents that I Robert Wilson of the County of Orange & State of Virginia, as well for and in consideration of the faithful services of my negro slave named John Minor, a stout mulatto man, fifty two years of age, a blacksmith by trade, and of the sum of three hundred dollars to me in hand paid by the said John Minor at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, manumit, emancipate and set free the said John Minor and discharge him from all servitude to me. Hereby declaring that he is as free to all intents and purposes as if he had been born free. In testimony whereof I hereto put my hand and affix my seal at Orange courthouse in the county of Orange this twenty third day of February one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine.

At a quarterly court held for the county of Orange at the courthouse on Monday the 25th of March 1839. This deed of emancipation from Robert Wilson to his negro man slave John Minor was this day proved in open court by the oaths of James B. Moore & Reynolds Chapmen the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
