Whereas our mother Ann Jones, late of Hanover County, dec’d did during her lifetime sing and execute a deed of emancipation for Lucy & her children to wit: Ben, Cyrus and Frank, which said deed was duly proved and recorded in the court of Orange County Virginia. We Achilles Barksdale and Douglass Barksdale being the only lawful representatives of our said mother, for and in consideration of the sum of five shillings to us in hand paid, the rest whereof we do hereby acknowledge. But, more especially to remove any doubt that shall or may arise respecting the validity of the said deed of emancipation, do hereby confirm the same – and for our selves, our heirs &c forever renounce any right, title, or claim to the said Lucy, Ben, Cyrus, and Frank, and such other descendants of the said Lucy as may have been born since the signing the aforesaid deed of emancipation. In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands this 30th day of the 10th mo. 1799.
