Know all men by these presents, that I James K Gibson
of the county of Washington and state of Virginia for divers
good causes me hereunto moving have and do hereby forever
liberate and set free my negro man John who is about
thirty four or five years of age, who is sometimes called
John Weaks. Witness my hand and seal this third day
of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty six.

the 24th day of February 1846
This Deed of Emancipation from James K Gibson
to his slave John alias John Weaks was proved in court
by the oaths of Jacob Lynch and Richard H. Lynch the subscribing
witnesses thereto to be the act and deed of said Gibson
and ordered to be recorded.
