Know all men by these presents that I, Robinson
Gannaway of the County of Smyth and State of Virginia
do hereby emancipate and forever surrender and
give up all my right interest and claims in and to
one negro woman named Mary, sometimes called
Mary Cook of whom I am lawfully seized and
possessed as my slave; said Mary is twenty seven years
old last July and is five feet 2 ¼ inches high _ I also
hereby give up all my right and claism in and to
her child called Benjamin Davis which will be
one year old in January 1846 – The above persons
my slaves I hereby fully emancipate and bind my-
self my heirs & faithfully to fulfill these obligations

At a court continued & held for Washington County
the 28th day of April 1846
This Deed of Emancipation from Robinson Gannaway
to his slave Mary sometimes called Mary Cook was
proved in court by the oath of Charles Collins & Edmund
Langley the subscribing witness thereto to be the act &
deed of said Gannaway and ordered to be recorded.
