Know all men by these presents that I Robertson Gannaway
of the county of Smyth and state of Virginia, have manumitted
emancipated and set free, a negro man slave named Henry,
and sometimes called Henry Waterford who was born my
slave in the state of Virginia, and I hereby declare him
the said Henry to be entirely liberated from slavery, and
entitled to all rights and privileges of a free person with
which it is in my power to vest him _ He the said Henry
sometimes called Henry Waterford hereby emancipated, is
a man of black complexion about five feet six and 1/4
inches high and will be twenty seven years old the nine-
teenth day of December next. In testimony whereof
I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my
seal this tenth day of Novr in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and forty three.

At a court continued and held for Washington County the
2nd day of September 1844.
This Deed of Emancipation from Robertson Gannaway
to his negro slave Henry sometimes called Henry Waterford was
proved in court by the oath of Charles Collins and George
Winniford the subscribing witnesses thereto to be the
act and deed of the said Gannaway and ordered to be
recorded.
