Know all men by these presents that I John Chew Administrator with the will annexed of James Ross dec’d late of Middlesex County Virginia, in pursuance of the direction of the said testator have emancipated, liberated and set free one mulatto man named Ben Hord a blacksmith (to whose service Daphne West his mother has granted a release). And I do hereby invest him the said Benjamin Hord with entire and perfect freedom and release him from all claims of service or bondage to my said testators, heirs, executors & administrators. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 10th day of January one thousand eight hundred and twenty seven.

At a court held for Middlesex County at the courthouse in Urbanna on Monday the 24th day of March 1828.
This deed of emancipation was proved to be in the proper handwriting of Jn. Chew by the oath of Geo. Healy and ordered to be recorded, and is truly recorded.
