Know all men by these presents that I Overton Cosby of the County of Middlesex and State of Virginia for divers causes and considerations, me thereunto moving; and also for and in further consideration of one dollar to me in hand paid, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, do by these presents emancipate and set free my slave Mary Gilmore, daughter of Fanny Gilmore, meaning and intending that the said Mary before mentioned shall be liberated and enjoy her freedom from the date of these presents, in as full and ample a manner as if she had been born free. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this 11th day of April Anno Domini one thousand eight hundred & six.

At a court held for Middlesex County at the courthouse in Urbanna on Monday the 28th day of April 1806. This deed of emancipation from Overton Cosby to his slave Mary Gilmore (daughter of Fanny Gilmore) was proved by the oaths of John Chew and Peter Kemp Junr the witness thereto and ordered to be recorded.
