Know all men by these presents that I John Conway of the Count of Northumberland have this day for & in consideration of the sum of seventy five pounds in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, and more especially for the further consideration of the long & faithful services rendered by Ben, a mulatto fellow slave, commonly called and known by the name of Benjamin Jonathan, enfranchised, liberated, manumitted, and forever set free, the said Benjamin Jonathan and do moreover by the presents, enfranchise, liberate, manumit & forever set free from my service as a slave the said Benjamin Jonathan. And moreover, I the said John Conway for myself & my heirs do hereby covenant to & with the said Benjamin Johnathan & his heirs that I will forever warrant & defend the title of him the said Benjamin Jonathan freedom under these presents against the claim or claims of all persons whatever. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this 11th day of November in the final year of eighteen hundred since the Christian era.

At a court of monthly session held for Northumberland County at the courthouse on Monday the 14th of Sept. 1801.
This deed of emancipation written on stamped paper was proved by the oath of Charles Blagrove a witness thereto and ordered to be recorded. And at a court of like session continued and held for the said county at the courthouse on Tuesday the 13th of October 1801, the said deed was further proved by the oath of Thomas G. Hull the other witness thereto, and again ordered to be recorded.
