Know all men by these presents that I Bethany Johnson of Northumberland County & State of Virginia do by these presents exonerate & set free & discharge a negro man Isaac that formerly belonged to Edward Conway of the said County & State that I purch’d of the said Conway by bill of sale bearing date June 7th day 1799 & furthermore I do hereby legally emancipate him the said Isaac according to law in that case made & provided. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 6th day of Jan’y 1800.

At a court of monthly session continued & held for Northumberland County at the courthouse on Tuesday the 14th of June 1803.
