Know all men by these presents that I, Richard Payne of the County of Lancaster have this day emancipated my negro fellow Joe Commonly Called “Cook Joe” for good and lawfull consideration, and I do hereby release and discharge, the Said Joe from all claim which I now have or have had upon his person or property, and I do warrant and defend his right to freedom from the claim or claims of every person or persons claiming by or through me, as witness my hand and Seal this Seventh day of April 1827
