Text of Freedom Document

Know all men by these presents that I Mary Monnett Admor with the will annexed of Joseph Monnett dec’d in consideration that the said Joseph by his will did manumit and set free his mulatto boy by name Richmond when he should attain the age of twenty five years and whereas the said boy Richmond did attain the age of twenty five years in January of the year eighteen hundred and thirty two so that he is now entitled to his freedom and his free papers. Now I the said Mary Monnett Admor as aforesaid do hereby manumit & set free the said slave Richmond and do hereby authorize the County Court of Clerk to cause to bestow to the said slave Richmond the necessary papers to enable him to pass as a free person to take effect from the first January in the year 1834. In witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal Admor aforesaid this 17th June in the year 1833.

At a court held for York County the 18th day of May 1834. This deed of emancipation was proved by the oath of the witness thereto & ordered to be recorded.
