State of Virginia York County to wit
I Thomas B. Griffin of Yorktown and county aforesaid in the state aforesaid, do hereby certify and make known that the bearer hereof a mulatto woman named Kitty is a free person of color, and has six mulatto children named John, William, Lucy, Sally, Courtney and Elizabeth who were all born in my family, and over whom I hereby disclaim all right, title to a property in the said woman Kitty and her six children above named. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this first day of January in the year eighteen hundred and nineteen.

This indenture of emancipation was acknowledged by Thomas B. Griffin party thereto as and for his act and deed according to law and admitted to record.
