I Thomas B. Griffin of Yorktown Virg’a do hereby certify and make known that the bearer hereof named Lucy, a light mulatto girl, long hair, light eyes, aged about twelve and a half years, is a free person being born of a free mother named Kitty who has been in my family from her birth, and I do hereby for myself and for my heirs, forever renounced and disclaim all right, title & property in the said mulatto girl Lucy or which may have been supposed to have been in me. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this first day of January in the year eighteen hundred and nineteen.

This deed of emancipation was acknowledged by Thomas B. Griffin party thereto, as and for his act and deed, and admitted to record according to law.
