Be it known to all whom it may concern that I Hugh Nelson Jun’r of Yorktown for divers good causes and considerations, me thereunto moving do enfranchise, manumit, emancipate and set free and by these presents have enfranchised, manumitted, emancipated and set free a woman slave named Schilla now my property, purchased from William Reynolds Esquire of the Yorktown and conveyed to me by him by deed bearing date the first day of July 1796 and do hereby release and renounce all claim which I may have to the slave; for and in behalf of the said slave and to her benefit and advantage. In witness whereof I have hereto put my hand and seal this 13th day of August 1796.
