To all to whom these presents shall come. Know ye that I John Page do by these presents emancipate, liberate and set free a mulatto girl called Betty, the daughter of Nanny aged about twelve year, together with all the future increase of said girl Betty, which said girl Betty I purchased from Benjamin Carter Waller of the City of Williamsburg and I do further declare by these presents and it is my true intent and meaning that the said girl shall be from henceforth in a perfect state of freedom. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this third day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety five.
