To all whom these presents shall come, know ye that I Mary Alexander of the County of Surry being fully persuaded that freedom is the natural right of all mankind, and having under my care seven negroes whom I have heretofore held as slaves of the following names and ages, to wit, Lucy about forty eight years, George about forty six years, Daphney about twenty nine years, Bob about twenty nine years, Qually about twenty six, Dick about twenty two years, and little Dick about twenty two years, all and every of whom I do hereby emancipate and set free, and do for myself, my heirs, executors, and administrators relinquish all my right, title, interest and claim whatsoever either to their persons or to any estate they may hereafter acquire. And having also other nine negroes now in their minority in my possession and care of the following names to wit, Jenny, Sam, Mima, Lucy, Nancy, Moses, Lizza, Allen, and George, and every of whom I do also emancipate and set free, reserving to myself the care and guardianship of them until they shall respectively arrive the males to the age of twenty one years, and the females to the age of eighteen years, & I do for myself, my heirs, executors and administrators relinquish all my right, title, interest and claim as well to their persons as to any property they may acquire after they shall attain respectively the ages above mentioned, which will happen at the following periods to wit: Jenny on the 15th day of February in this present year 1800, Sam on the 20th day of October 1806, Mima on the 5th day of January 1807, Lucy on the 5th day of January 1807, Nancy on the 9th day of August 1807, Moses on the 12th day of January 1813, Lizza on the 10th day of July 1812, Allen on the 1st day of December 1818, and George on the 18th day of February 1820 at which several periods all the afore named nine negroes respectively and their posterity to enjoy their full freedom free of any claim which may be made by me or any person lawfully claiming under me. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty eighth day of January in the year of Christ one thousand eight hundred.

The within written deed of manumission from Mary Alexander to negroes, Lucy, George, Daphney, Bob, Qually, Dick, little Dick, Jenny, Sam, Mima, Lucy, Nancy, Moses, Lizza, Allen and George was acknowledged by the said Mary Alexander to be her act and deed, and by the court ordered to be recorded.
