I John Warren of Surry County having under my care four negroes, Pleasant aged about thirty years, Joe and Dick about twenty eight years, and Jesse twenty two years which negroes I have heretofore held as slaves but being fully persuaded that freedom is the right of all mankind, I do hereby emancipate and set the said Pleasant, Joe, Dick and Jesse free and secure to them their person and any estate they have or may hereafter acquire from me and my heirs or any person claiming for, by, from or under me. I have also six negroes now in their minority to wit, Effy, Tempy, Dick, Judah, Nat and Amy, which I also emancipate and set free when they shall arrive to the age prescribed by law, the males to twenty one and the females to eighteen years, but I keep to myself the privilege of acting as guardian for them during their minority. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this thirty first day of December one thousand seven hundred and ninety five.

The aforewritten deed of emancipation from John Warren to negroes Pleasant, Joe, Dick, Jesse, Effy, Tempy, Dick, Judah, Nat and Amy was acknowledged by the said John Warren to be his act and deed and by the court ordered to be recorded.
