I Samuel Bailey of Surry County in Virginia being fully persuaded that freedom is the natural right of all mankind and that it is my duty to do unto others as I would desire to be done by in the like situation, and having under my care seventeen negroes whom I have heretofore held as slaves, of the following names and ages viz. Natt aged about sixty five years, Harry about sixty, York about sixty, Hagar about fifty five, Bett about fifty one, Judy about forty three, Casar about thirty eight, Metto about thirty four, Lucy about thirty one, Jasper about twenty five, Jenny about twenty five, Doctor about twenty two, Hannah about twenty two, Joan about twenty four, Annahy about twenty, Selah about eighteen, and Lyddy about eighteen years. I hereby emancipate and set free all and every of the above named slaves, and I do for myself, my heirs, Exors and Administrators, relinquish all my right, title, interest and claim, or pretentions of claim whatsoever, either to their persons or to any estate they may hereafter acquire. And having also twenty seven negroes now in their minority of the following names and ages viz. Fanny about sixteen years of age, Charles about fifteen, Milly about fourteen, Effy about thirteen, Tillar about thirteen, Edy about twelve, Rose about eleven, Tom about ten, Sue about ten, Sam about ten, Cate about ten, Cherry about eight, Bridget about eight, Aaron about seven, Isaac about six, Parrot about six, Nedd about six, Delphy about four, Bett about four, Natt about three, John about three, Beck about two, Silvy about one, Jacob about one, Judy about five months, Mike about four months, and Charlotte about four months all and every one of which I also hereby emancipate and set free. Yet I believe it right for me to act as a guardian over them until the males arrive to the age of twenty one and the females to the age of eighteen years, and I do for myself, my heirs, Executors, and Administrators relinquish all my right, title, interest and claim or pretention of claim whatsoever either to their persons or to any estate they may acquire after they shall attain to the ages abovesaid, which will be at the following times viz. Fanny on the 30 day of the 5th month 1784, Charles on the 6th day of the 5th month of 1786, Milly on the 19th day of the 11th month 1786, Effy on the 2nd day of the 11th month 1787, Tillar on the 1st day of the 12th month 1787, Edy on the 1st day of the 10th month 1788, Rose on the 30th day of the 11th month 1789, Tom on 25th day of the 2nd month 1793, Sue on the 26th day of the 5th month 1790, Sam on the 30th day of the 11th month 1793, Cate on the 20th day of the 12th month 1790, Cherry on the 30th day of the 11th month 1792, Bridget on the 30th day of the 12th month 1792, Aaron on the 10th day of the 12th month 1796, Isaac on the 20th day of the 11th month 1797, Parrot on the 26th day of the 11th month 1797, Need on the 10th day of the 12th month 1797, Delphy on the 6th day of the 12th month 1796, Bett on the 15th day of the 12th month 1796, Natt on the 6th day of the 12th month 1800, John on the 16th day of the 12th month 1800, Beck on the 12th day of the 10th month 1798, Silvy on the 10th day of the 6th month 1799, Jacob on the 13th day of the 8th month 1802, Judy on the 9th day of the 2nd month 1800, Mike on the 16th day of the 3rd month 1803, and Charlotte on the 26th day of the 3rd month 1800. All the above said negroes and their posterity to enjoy their full freedom without any interruption from me or any person claiming for, by, from or under me. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fifth day of the seventh month in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty two.

At a court held for Surry County August 27th 1782 The afore written manumission as acknowledged by the within named Samuel Bailey and on his motion the same is ordered to be recorded.
