In the name of God Amen
I Polly Pearce of the County of Spotsylvania and State of Virginia do make this my last will and testament. I give, devise and bequeath all the estate of which I may die, seized and possessed or in any wise entitled to unto Gilbert Baylor a mulatto man this day manumitted by me, and of this my will I constitute Thomas H. Botts and John Minor Esquires of Fredericksburg Executors. In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this the 6th day of May 1833.
Teste Polly Pearce (seal)
Jno L. Marye
R.L. Stevenson
In Spotsylvania County Court January 2nd 1860
The last will and testament of Polly Pearce deceased was this day proved in court by the oath of John L. Marye one of the witnesses thereto and it appearing to the court that R.L. Stevenson the other subscribing witness to the said will has departed this life, Oscar M. Crutchfield and Robert C. Dabney were called and sworn and severally deposed that they are well acquainted with the handwriting of the said R.L. Stevenson dec’d and verily believe that the signature of the said R.L. Stevenson dec’d as an attesting witness to the said will was written wholly by the said R.L. Stevenson’s own hand. Whereupon the said writing is ordered to be recorded as the true last will and testament of the said Polly Pearce deceased and the Executors in the said will having refused to qualify as such, on the motion of Claudia Tompkins who made oath thereto and together with Frank Tompkins his security he having testified on oath as to his sufficiency, and entered into and acknowledged a bond in penalty of $1600 conditioned as the law directs, certificate is granted him for obtaining letters of administration on the estate of the said Polly Pearce deceased in due form.
