Know all men by these presents that I John Metcalfe of the town of Fredericksburg, State of Virginia do hereby emancipate and set free from all bondage my servant man Beverly James whom I bought of Tho’s T. Johnson of Richmond. Witness my hand and seal this 1 day of October 1842.
