Know all men by these presents that we John Kobler & Mary Kobler of the County of Spotsylvania & State of Virginia for divers good causes and considerations us thereunto moving have manumitted, emancipated and forever set free and by these presents do manumit, emancipate and forever set free our female slave named Fortimore Fincastle about thirty six years of age and her three children named as follows viz Vinsant seven years of age, Fincastle five years of age, and Tristan Gainer two years of age, to have and to hold to them the said female slave named Fortimore Fincastle and her children named as aforesaid their full free manumission, emancipation and freedom from the day of the date hereof fully, freely and absolutely for their own use and benefit forever subject to no labor or servitude for the benefit or profit of any person at any time hereafter. In witness whereof we the said John Kobler and Mary Kobler his wife have hereunto set our hands & seals this seventh day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty three.

This deed of emancipation from John Kobler and Mary Kobler to Fortimore Fincastle and other negro slaves was proved by the oaths of John L. Caldwell and John M. Herndon witnesses thereto and is ordered to be recorded.
