Know all men by these presents that John Kobler and Mary Kobler of the County of Spotsylvania and State of Virginia for divers good causes and considerations us thereunto moving have manumitted, enfranchised and forever set free and by these presents do manumit, enfranchise, release and forever set free the following slaves to wit: Joshua Early about forty seven years of age, Auky the wife of said Joshua about forty three years of age, Ann the daughter of Joshua & Auky about twenty five years of age, Verenda sixteen years of age, Dangerfield twelve years of age, Armistead ten years of age, Peter five years of age & John two years of age, all children of the said John & Auky, also Ann Smith five years old, the daughter of the said Ann and grand daughter of the said Joshua & Auky. To have and to hold them the above mentioned negro slaves their full free manumission, emancipation and freedom from the date hereof fully freely and absolutely for their own proper use and benefit forever, subject to no labor, service or servitude in or for the benefit or profit of them the said John Kobler & Mary Kobler or either of them or either of their heirs, executors, or administrators or any of them at any time hereafter. In witness whereof the said John Kobler and Mary Kobler his wife have hereunto set their hands and seals this seventh day of October in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred & thirty three.

This deed of emancipation from John Kobler and Mary Kobler to Joshua Early and other negro slaves was proved by the oaths of John L. Caldwell and John M. Herndon, witnesses thereto and is ordered to be recorded.
