To all to whom these presents may come be it known that I Hugh Roy of the County of Spotsylvania having a legal right in a certain slave called [?Sammy?] about forty five years now in my possession, for certain causes me thereto moving, do hereby emancipate the said sale & set him free from all claim that I have in and to him and from the claim of all and every person whatsoever.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 3rd day of September 1799.

This deed of emancipation was acknowledged by Hugh Roy and ordered to be recorded.
