Whereas Isaac Kagy late of the County of Shenandoah and State of Virginia died (intestate) seized and possessed of a certain male slave named Abraham about thirty seven years of age healthy and able bodied. To whom these presents may concern know ye that we John Kagy, Abraham Kagy, Rudolph Kagy, Christian Kagy, Henry Kagy, John Berry, Elizabeth Miley heirs and legal representatives of Isaac Kagy dec’d, Martin Roof, Barbara Rush, William Stepp, James Hawkins, Elizabeth Roof, Samuel Roof, Solomon Tilley heirs and legal representatives of Anna Roof dec’d, Abraham Kagy, John Kagy, Isaac Kagy, Gabriel [illegible], Jacob Kagy, Henry Kagy heirs and legal representations of Jacob Kagy dec’d have this day emancipated and by these presents do emancipate and set free the said Abraham. In testimony we have herein to set our hands and affixed our seals this 13th day of Sept. 1823.

This deed of emancipation from the heirs of Isaac Kagy deceased to negro Abraham was proved by the oaths of Moses Walton, John Neuman and Patrick McManus as to John Kagy, Henry Kagy, John Berry, Christian Kagy, Rudolph Kagy, Elizabeth Miley, Martin Roof, Elizabeth Roof, Samuel Roof, Abraham Kagy, Barbara Rush, and James Hawkins by the affirmation of John Kagy and Henry Kagy witnesses thereto as to Abraham Kagy, John Kagy, Isaac Kagy & Gabriel Barb by the oaths of Moses Walton & John Neuman witnesses thereto as to Henry Kagy, William Hess, & Jacob Kagy & ordered to be recorded as to them and by the oaths of Zachariah Shirley a witnesses thereto as to Solmon Pefley and ordered to be certified as to them.
