Know all men by these presents that I Jacob Steagle of the County of Shenandoah & State of Virigina have emancipated, liberated and set free, and by these presents do emancipate, liberate and set free Nan a negro woman from being my slave as any other person. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 29th day of April 1790.

At a court held for the County of Shenandoah on Thursday the 29th day of April 1790. This instrument of writing from Jacob Steagle to negro Nan was acknowledged by said Jacob & ordered to be recorded.
