Norris &al to Sarah Jackson Deed of Emancipation
Know all men by these presents that we George W. Norris in his own right and as Trustee for Mrs. Charlotte A. Thornton, Howard F. Thorton and his wife Charlotte A. Thornton formerly Charlotte A. Norris, and John B. Norris, pursuant to a contract duly entered into with Mrs. Jane B. Norris deceased in her life time, and for divers good and reasonable considerations thereunto moving them, and each of them have fully emancipated and forever set free from slavery or involuntary servitude negro Sarah alias Sarah Jackson, the wife of negro Jake, alias Jacob Jackson whose freedom has been recently purchased by Doctor Samuel Taylor of Clarke County State of Virginia and her further increase if any there shall be.
Witness the following seals and signatures the eighteen day of January one thousand eight hundred and fifty four.

I James B. Latimer a Commissioner appointed by the Governor of the State of Virginia for the State of Maryland aforesaid do certify that George M. Norris whose name is signed to the within writing, bearing date the 15th day of January A.D. 1854, has acknowledged the same before me in the state aforesaid.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name & affixed my seal of office the 18th day of January A.D. 1854.

The freedom of the within named negro Jake alias Jacob Jackson was purchased from and not by Dr. Samuel Taylor as stated in the foregoing deed of emancipation.
Given under our hands & seals contemporaneously with the execution by us of said deeds.

On the 8th day of February 1854. This deed of emancipation from G.W. Norris &al to Sarah Jackson was produced to me Clerk of the Court of the County aforesaid with certificate of acknowledgement of Geo. W. Norris and acknowledged in the Clerk’s office by Jno B. Norris, and on the 9th day of February 1854 it was further acknowledged in the Clerk’s office by Howard F. Thornton and Charlotte A his wife she being first privily examined and admitted to record.
