Dr. Sam’l Taylor to negro Jake alias Jacob Jackson Deed of Emancipation
Know all men by these presents that I Dr. Samuel Taylor of Clarke County in Virginia for and in consideration of one thousand dollars to use in hand by Miss Elizabeth [?Wouley?] per the hands of Richard E. Byrd of Winchester before the execution hereof the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have fully and forever emancipated and set free from slavery, or involuntary servitude, of every sort and kind, and hereby do emancipate and set free my servant slave for life Jake alias Jacob Jackson, a negro supposed to be between thirty five and forty years of age; said Jake being of a tawney complexion, marked with a scar, or what appears to be two scars in a direct line on his forehead, above or nearly above his left eye and a light mark on his breast near his neck, having the appearance of a natural mark, and is about from four feet nine inches to five feet ten inches in stature.
In testimony whereof I do hereto set my hand and affix my seal this 19th day of January 1854.

On this 20th day of January 1854. This deed of emancipation from Dr. Samuel Taylor to negro Jake alias Jacob Jackson was produced and proven by the oaths of H.T. Barton and James A. Hayes, the subscribing witnesses thereto, before me Clerk of the Court of the County aforesaid and admitted to record.
