The Rev Dr. Wm Meade to Lucy Deed of Emancipation
Know all men by these presents that I William Meade of the County of Clarke and State of Virginia within view & preparing a certain female mulatto slave named Lucy for the enjoyment of the freedom herein after bestowed upon her have by indenture bearing date the [blank] date & [blank] born said female Lucy now about 17 years of age, to a certain J.W. Stockton residing in the State of Pennsylvania until the said Lucy arrives at the age of 21 years under certain stipulations in an indenture signed by myself & said Stockton bearing date on the [blank] day of [blank] and by these presents do give and grant unto the said Lucy her freedom for ever and do hereby manumit her from my service forever, which freedom herein granted her to be enjoyed by her after a performance on her part of several agreements and stipulations mentioned in the foresaid indenture, entered in to with the aforesaid J.W. Stockton of the State of Pennsylvania.
In testimony whereof the said William Meade hath hereunto subscribed his name and affixed his seal this 28th April 1843.

Alexandria County to wit
We Wm. N Mills and Reuben Johnston Justices of the Peace for the County aforesaid hereby certify that William Meade personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and in our presence signed and sealed the within instrument of writing and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed and desired us to certify the said execution and acknowledgment to the proper court for record. Certified under our hands and seals this 28th day of April 1843.

At a court held for the County aforesaid on Monday the 22nd day of May 1843. Deed of emancipation from Rev William Meade manumitting female mulatto slave named Lucy was produced in court with certificate of acknowledgement thereof by the said Rev William Meade and ordered to be recorded.
