Reuben Jordan to Negro Spencer Deed of Emancipation
Know all men by these presents that I Reuben Jordan of the County of Clarke Virginia in for divers good & sufficient considerations thereunto moving me, have emancipated and set free and do hereby emancipate & set free forever, and to every & all intents & purposes my slave negro Spencer who was by me lately recovered of Mr. Wm R. Seevers by the judgment of the Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery for said Clarke County hereby conferring upon said Spencer from this time as perfect a right to freedom as if he been born free.
As witness my hand and seal this 26th day of Oct. 1839.

At a court held for the County aforesaid on Monday the 28th day of October 1839. This deed of emancipation from Reuben Jordan to negro Spencer was produced and proven by the oaths of Thomas Hielt and John Lock the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
