Thomas Kennerly to Bennett Taylor Deed of Emancipation
Know all men by these presents that I Thomas Kennerly of the County of Clarke in the State of Virginia in consideration that I have rec’d from my servant man Bennett Taylor the sum of two hundred and thirty dollars and for divers other good considerations have emancipated and set free and by these presents do emancipate and set free my said servant Bennett Taylor aged about fifty years, six feet high and nearly black. In testimony whereof I have affixed my hand and seal this 10th day of May 1838.

At a court held for the County aforesaid on Monday the 22nd day of October 1838. This deed of emancipation from Thomas Kennerly to his servant Bennett Taylor was produced to court acknowledged by the said Kennerly and ordered to be recorded.
