Philip Nelson to negroes Anthony & Susan
Deed of Emancipation
Know all men by these presents that I Philip Nelson of Long Branch Clarke County Virginia have forever emancipated & set free and do hereby emancipate & set free negroes Anthony Anderson and Susan his wife for & in considerations of the entire release and discharge by and from negroes Thomas Cook and Catharine his wife of a certain provision contained in the last will & testament of my late sister in law Frances H. Burwell and every part thereof including such as may be now due & in paid thereon; as also such as may hereafter accrues thereon, it being the true intent of all the parties concerned in said provision that the same shall be utterly extinguished and discharged now & forever.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this twenty eighth day of August 1837.

At a court held for the county aforesaid on Monday the 28th day of August 1837. This deed of emancipation to negroes Anthony Anderson & Susan his wife was acknowledged in open court by Philip Nelson & ordered to be recorded.
