This instrument of writing made & dated the 20th day of October in the year of eighteen hundred & fifty one, witnesseth that the undersigned Ruhamah M. Buck widow of Thomas Buck dec’d do hereby emancipate & set free the following negro slaves to me belonging to wit a woman named Mariah aged between 38 & 40, Jane a daughter of Maria aged about 24, Margaret another daughter of Maria aged about 22. William aged about 20. Ruhama aged about 16, Roxy Ann aged about 12 & John aged about nine, also a boy named William Jackson aged about 21 & Charles aged about nineteen, Philip (a blacksmith) now living in Morefield, also Chape a son of Mary Jane aged two years & Mary a child of Margaret aged about a year. And I hereby discharge the said slaves & each of them from all further claim of service, reserving however & retaining in my service during my life, negroes Maria & her daughter Roxy Ann whose freedom hereby granted & provided for is not to take effect until my death & reserving also the service of negroes Philip & William Jackson who are now hired out until the expiration of the terms for which thy are hired which will be the 1st of January 1853, when their right to freedom shall arise or take effect. Witness my hand & seal October 20th 1851.

Warren County to wit
The within deed of emancipation from Ruhamah M. Buck to the negro slaves therein named was proved before the undersigned clerk of the County Court of Warren in the Clerk’s Office of said court by the oaths of Mordecai Cloud and Hanson Dorsey, witnesses thereto on the 23rd day of October 1851 and admitted to record.
